2001 - 2002 Class Projects

TLC Aid

Team Members: Deanne Carbonneau, Stewart Gandy, Shari Karasek, Kelly Martyn, Mark Wittwer

Challenge
The Real School and Taylor Home do not have the resources to offer career development to their students. For continued success of the students attending these schools, it is imperative to develop a program allowing the students to be exposed to the various career/educational options they have to choose from once they finish high school.

Mission: To find ways to help improve the educational curriculum in Racine.

Vision: To develop two additional educational programs in Racine with sustainable career development programs for their students. With the success of this program, additional charter or specialty schools in Racine County will be able to implement this program.

2 DEEP (Drug Education for Every Parent)

Team members: William Bernhard, Connie Cobb-White, Kim Deschler, Kimberlie Kelly, Camela Meyer, Adrienne Moore

Challenge
Educate parents on the importance of communicating with their children about drug abuse, and give parents the tools to identify the warning signs of substance abuse and to effectively communicate the dangers of such abuse.

Mission: To provide parents with the necessary tools to discuss substance abuse with their children.

Vision: Parents in our community will be able to effectively recognize warning signs, develop communication skills and be aware of available resources.

Youth Connections For Success

Team members: Anne Callaghan, Diane Henderson, Matt McVey, Judy Mayer, Jeff Wilkins, Latonia Woods

Challenge
We need to involve the business community to mentor and develop connections with youth.

Mission: To provide youth ages 12-15 with real-world business experience and increase the number of adult mentors.

Vision: We will help students by engaging Racine’s business community to develop mentor/student relationships, increase the number of adult mentors and give our youth real-world business experience.

Team F.O.R.E. (Future Opportunity for Racine Employment)

Team members: Tracye Dyess, Doris Ingram, Zeke Leo, Jeff McKeown, Caroline Stephens

Challenge
Low income and W2 participants are under-utilized in today’s workforce. A win-win situation is needed to give the employees an opportunity to reach their employment goals and the employers more positive bottom lines.

Mission: Team F.O.R.E. seeks to provide an avenue to educate and inform Racine area employers of ways to help them better understand and utilize our community’s W2 and low-income workforce, resulting in a stronger economic base and a more sustainable community.

Vision: Racine area companies should experience a lower rate of employee turnover due to employers having a better understanding of issues relating to W2 participants and the low-income workforce.

Culture Club

Team members: Rebecca Banks, Thomas Berger, Tanya Burton, Laura D'Amato, Jodi Gissel, Kathleen Stephan

Challenge
There is no central resource and easy understanding of available arts and culture opportunities for adults and children.

Mission: To develop and provide an accessible, comprehensive, informative resource to Racine’s residents and visitors regarding the full spectrum of arts and culture.

Vision: We will increase community resident and visitor awareness and utilization of local arts and culture opportunities, thereby strengthening and sustaining those organizations while improving the arts and culture experience and improving Racine residents’ quality of life.
